These drums are the "go-to" snare drums in studios and live settings all over the world! Sensitive and full-bodied, yet controlled tone are the hallmarks of this shell type. These snare drums are a sound engineers dream. The nature of stave design provides focused, pure tone with the unwanted frequencies naturally attenuated. Session King snare drums are the "flagship" of Artisan Drumworks.

Available in your choice of domestic wood species at no additional charge. Or, select from one of six exotic and one premium exotic and very musical tone-woods, Honduran Rosewood as a custom option.

The afican bulbinga is beautiful and I've seen stave drums before (and actually own one now from another company). The staves are assembled so well and flawlessly that I thought it was a plywood shell. I had to call you just to make sure I got what I wanted. Anyway, it looks great. THEN I played it! What a nice pop with great depth. I don't have to work as hard playing this drum, either. I love it and I'll probably be calling soon about getting a full kit."

Finishes

We offer 4 finish types to enhance the natural beauty of your drum(s): Hand rubbed Oil/Wax, Satin Lacquer, Artisan Polish and Mirror Gloss. Select the desired finish for each drum you are purchasing.

Hand rubbed Oil & Wax exhibits a soft, natural wood glow.

Satin Lacquer has a silky, medium sheen appearance and offers a higher degree of protection compared to Oil & Wax.

Artisan Polish (TM) is our favorite "in the wood" finish. It is comprised of a hand polishing process blending the warm character of shellac, varnish, and natural wax. This proprietary finish results in a glossy, yet natural appearance. A very exquisite and durable finish.

Mirror Gloss (TM) is the ultimate in a wet, glass smooth appearance. This high-end finish is has a UV component that will maintain it's pristine clarity for the life of the drum(s).

Artisan Lugs

Our drums come with your choice of classic tube lugs or our very own Artisan Sphere single point lugs, designed in house. Sphere lugs are machined from solid brass , polished by hand and clear lacquered for protection. Classic tube lugs are available in chrome, brass, or black nickel.

EdgeCraft (I.R.R.)

EdgeCraft I.R.R. is a re-inforcement ring cut during the lathing process that is an integral part of the shell, not a glue-in ring. The benefit of I.R.R. is the strength and rigidity gained where it is needed, at the outside edges of the shell. This feature allows for the overall body of the shell to be thinner which produces a lower fundamental pitch and maximum resonance.
